Learning Activities

1. FFA provides great opportunities for agriculture education students to apply what they have learned in class and through their SAE projects. Through FFA, students can be rewarded by earning FFA Degrees or proficiency awards. View this PowerPoint presentation on FFA Awards. (This presentation available from: http://www.cals.ncsu.edu/agexed/sae/toolbox/index.html and used with permission of Dr. Gary Moore)

PowerPoint Notes in pdf format.

Task: Make a list of your students that may be eligible for a FFA Degree or proficiency award.

2. Completing proficiency awards can be a challenging task for first time students and new agriculture teachers. National FFA has developed a handbook to consult. Read section 2 (pgs. 8-39) of the handbook

3. National FFA also maintains a web site devoted to proficiency awards. Visit this web site to see what resources are available to agriculture teachers and students.

Assignments

1. There is no better way to learn how to complete a proficiency award than doing so. Your assignment is to use either the fictitious student that you completed the SAE record book for, or a real student of yours and complete the appropriate proficiency award application from the application templates (note that this requires Microsoft Excel). Email the completed application to the instructor.

2. Now that you have completed a proficiency award, your assignment is to find the State FFA Degree application located on the Florida FFA website, and complete a State FFA Degree application for either the same student, or another student that you may have that is eligible.

3. Email the completed study guide to the instructor.
