Study Guide

Download this study guide and complete it as you go through this lesson.

Learning Activities

1. Many agricultural students use placement as their SAE project. Sometimes they get the jobs on their own, sometimes the agriculture teacher will assist them in locating a job. Child Labor Laws should be consulted when placing a student in a job. View the following PowerPoint presentation about Child Labor Laws. (This presentation available from SAE Central)

PowerPoint Notes in pdf format.

Task: Take a minute to think about any students that have jobs as part of their SAE project. Are they (YOU) following the Child Labor Laws?

2. Read the following web site on Child Labor Laws. Are your students following these laws?

3. Cooperative education gives students the opportunity to practice what they have learned in class in a "real world" job. Managing CO-OP education can be difficult and time consuming. Visit the Steps for Success handbook for a planning and implementation guide for completing a CO-OP education program.

Assignments

1. Identify ten potential cooperative education training sites (employers) that students could use as part of their SAE projects. Post these to WebCT under the appropriate heading on the discussion board.

2. Is cooperative education worth the effort for an agriculture teacher to implement? Post your response to WebCT under the appropriate heading on the discussion board. Respond to at least two of your classmate's postings.

3. Visit Florida's Child Labor Law web site and become familiar with how to find information.  The instructor will send questions to answer. Email your answers to the instructor.

4. Email the completed study guide to the instructor.
