1. Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) is an important component of an agricultural education program. Watch this PowerPoint presentation to get a good introduction to SAE. (This presentation available from SAE Central)

Task: Think about how SAEs could benefit your students.  Could EVERY student in your program establish an SAE?

2. SAE has a long standing history in agricultural education. Many articles have been published in the Agricultural Education Magazine. For a sampling of some historical articles about SAEs, read the following articles.

3. Agriculture teachers are responsible for supervising SAE projects. This usually involves visiting the students home to check on the project. Watch this PowerPoint presentation on Supervising SAE projects.

Task: Take a minute to think about how you can improve your supervision of SAE projects.  What are you doing now?  How could you improve?

4. Record keeping is another important part of a student's SAE project. As the teacher, you will be responsible for assisting students keep records. Look at the FFA Proficiency Award Handbook to see what SAE records encompass. 

Task: What do each of the proficiency award applications have in common?  Could ALL of your students complete a proficiency award?  Why or why not?

Assignments

1. Take an inventory of all your students to identify which students have projects, the scope of their projects, and which students don't have projects. Create a list and email this to the instructor.

2. Take this SAE case study or use information from one of your own students and complete the online SAE record book that corresponds to this enterprise. The instructor will send you the needed information about the record book in an email.

3. Email the completed study guide to the instructor.
