Organizations

New teachers are often swamped
by individuals telling them to join this teacher organization or that
teacher organization. Just what do these organizations do and why should a
teacher join them? Hopefully, after completing this lesson, you will have a
better understanding of professional organizations and why they are
important. You will also understand more about the professional roles of
teachers. |

1. Identify the purposes and goals of
the following professional organizations in teacher development: NAAE,
FAAE, NEA/AFT, ACTE, and FCATE. 2. Describe the activities of the National
Council for Agricultural Education
3. List the reasons why agriculture
teachers should belong to their professional organizations. |

1. Visit the National
Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE) to learn more about your
professional organization.
2. Visit the
Florida Association
of Agriculture Educators (FAAE) web site. Check out the various
links.
3. The National
Council for Agricultural Education promotes a number of projects that
benefit agriculture teachers. Spend some time at this site. Be sure to
check out The Agricultural Education Magazine and the Success
Stories sections.
4. The Association
for Career and Technical Education is the umbrella organization for
all vocational educators. Spend some time at this site. Review the
TECHNIQUES magazine. 5. Two of the most popular national teacher
organizations are the National Education
Association and the American Federation
of Teachers. Compare the two organizations, noting similarities
and differences in the two organizations.
